Our Vision
What We Believe
At Dakshinamurthy Math, our faith is rooted in the eternal wisdom of Sanatana Dharma and the non-dualistic philosophy (Advaita Vedanta) propounded by Adi Shankaracharya.
1. The Oneness of Reality (Advaita)
We believe in the ultimate truth: “Brahman Satyam, Jagat Mithya, Jivo Brahmaiva Naparah” (Brahman alone is Real, the world is transient, and the individual self is non-different from the Supreme). We hold that the divinity residing within one being is the same divinity residing in all.
2. The Authority of the Vedas
We accept the Vedas and the Upanishads as the supreme, impersonal authority (Apaurusheya Pramana). They are not merely books, but the breath of the Divine, guiding humanity toward the four goals of life: Dharma (Righteousness), Artha (Wealth), Kama (Desire), and ultimately Moksha (Liberation).
3. The Guru-Shishya Parampara
We believe that spiritual knowledge cannot be acquired through books alone; it must be kindled by a realized Master. We honor the unbroken lineage of teachers—from Lord Dakshinamurthy to Veda Vyasa, to Adi Shankara, down to our present Acharyas—who have kept this flame alive for millennia.
4. Harmony of Jnana and Karma
While we believe that Knowledge (Jnana) is the direct means to liberation, we uphold Action (Karma/Seva) as the means to purify the mind. We believe that serving society—feeding the hungry (Annadana) or educating the young (Vidya Daan)—is not just charity, but worship of the Divine manifested in the world.
5. The Sanctity of Sannyasa
We believe that Renunciation (Sannyasa) is the pinnacle of human life. The ochre robe is not a symbol of escaping the world, but of embracing the whole universe as one’s own family (Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam).
WHAT’S NEXT?
Our Mission
Guided by the motto “Atmano Mokshartham Jagat Hitaya Cha” (For the salvation of the self and the welfare of the world), our mission unfolds in three distinct directions:
1

1. Jnana (Knowledge)
To preserve and propagate the Dasanami Sampradaya tradition by:
Publishing authentic scriptures and commentaries through Aum Prakashan Mandir.
Igniting the flame of Sanatana Dharma in the hearts of children and youth through the Balbodha and Gita Gyan programs.
2

2. Seva (Service)
To see the Divine in every being and serve them through:
Annadana: Feeding Sadhus and the hungry daily.
Atithi Seva: Providing sanctuary to pilgrims in the holy land of Puri.
3

3. Sannyasa (Renunciation)
To build and maintain a spiritual fortress (Sadhu Nivas) where monks can dedicate their lives to contemplation, austerity, and the protection of Dharma without worldly hindrances.
